Bachelor of Social Work

The Bachelor of Social Work program focuses on promoting the well-being and building relationships with individuals, families, and communities, while also connecting local and global perspectives. Graduates will be equipped to influence social policies at the local, national, and global levels. This is an AASW-accredited qualification. It is an entry qualification into the social work profession and has been determined to meet the Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards.

To study this program you will need to complete one of the following English proficiency tests:

  • IELTS (Academic): minimum overall band of 7.0 (with no individual band below 7.0)
  • TOEFL (Internet Based Test – IBT): minimum overall score of 94 (with minimum of 24 in Reading, 24 in Listening, 23 in Speaking and 27 in Writing)
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE (A)): minimum score of 65 (with no communication band less than 65)

What you will study

For each 8-point subject you are enrolled in, you should expect to spend 10 to 12 hours per week working on assignments and assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, and attending lectures, intensive schools, or examinations. If you are studying four subjects per session, this is equivalent to a full-time job. The workload for some subjects may vary as a result of approved course design.

Academic Entry Requirements

Applicants for the Graduate Certificate in Human Services must meet the following requirements:

Completed Bachelor (or AQF equivalent) in human services, social work, social welfare, social sciences, nursing, health or related areas;

OR

A completed Bachelor (or AQF equivalent), needing to complete pre-requisite subjects, for the purpose of applying to the Master of Social Work (Professional Qualifying) degree at the Course Director’s direction;

OR

Five years full time (or equivalent) relevant work experience in Human Services. 

Minimum English Language Requirements

International student IELTS requirement: Academic IELTS minimum overall band of 6.5 with no individual band below 6.0 completed in the last two years (or equivalent).

Course Duration- The course duration is 26 weeks full time or up to 2 years part time.

Study Master of Social Work in Australia

The Master of Social Work is a postgraduate program that prepares you to become a social worker in just two years. It is accredited by Social Work England (SWE), the professional UK regulator. After completing the program, you must apply to register with Social Work England to work as a qualified social worker.

During the program, you will be taught by social work academics, researchers, expert practitioners, and individuals with lived experience in various specialist social work fields.
