VISA PROCESS OF US F1 AND DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
The F1 visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows international students to study full-time in the USA at accredited academic institutions or language training programs. Here is an overview of the visa process and the documents required for obtaining an F1 visa:
Admission to a SEVP-Certified Institution:
- Before applying for an F1 visa, you must first be admitted to a Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP)-certified academic institution in the USA. This could be a university, college, language school, or other educational institution.
Form DS-160:
- Complete the online Nonimmigrant Visa Application form DS-160. You will need to upload a recent photograph meeting specific requirements.
Pay the Visa Application Fee:
- Pay the non-refundable visa application fee. The fee amount can vary depending on your nationality and the type of visa you are applying for.
SEVIS Fee Payment:
- Pay the SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) I-901 fee. This fee is required for all F1 visa applicants and helps fund the administration of the SEVP program. You will need to provide proof of SEVIS fee payment during your visa interview.
Form I-20:
- • After being accepted by a SEVP-certified institution, you will receive a Form I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status) from the institution's designated school official (DSO). The Form I-20 will contain important information about your intended course of study, program start date, and estimated expenses.
Visa Interview:
-
Schedule and attend a visa interview at the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate in your home country. You will need to bring several documents to the interview, including:
• Passport valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay in the USA.
• Form DS-160 confirmation page.
• Receipt of visa application fee payment.
• Receipt of SEVIS fee payment (Form I-901).
• Form I-20 issued by your SEVP-certified institution.
• Financial documentation demonstrating your ability to cover tuition, living expenses, and other costs while studying in the USA. This may include bank statements, scholarship letters, or affidavits of support.
• Academic transcripts, diplomas, or certificates from previous educational institutions attended.
• Any additional documents requested by the consular officer, such as standardized test scores, proof of ties to your home country, or letters of recommendation.
Visa Decision:
- • After the visa interview, the consular officer will make a decision on your visa application. If approved, you will receive your passport with the F1 visa stamped inside.
It’s essential to carefully follow all instructions provided by the U.S. embassy or consulate and to prepare your documents thoroughly for the visa interview. Additionally, be prepared to answer questions about your academic plans, financial situation, and ties to your home country during the interview.
