Updated Student Visa Requirement: Introduction of the Genuine Student (GS) Criterion :
In a significant update to the student visa process, the Australian Government has introduced a new requirement, known as the Genuine Student (GS) criterion, replacing the previous Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement. This change is applicable to all student visa applications submitted from 23 March 2024 onwards.
The GS requirement is designed to ensure that international students not only come to Australia for their studies but also have the opportunity to contribute to the Australian workforce with skills that are in demand. It reflects a more inclusive approach towards students who, after completing their education in Australia, possess the necessary skills required by the country and are interested in applying for permanent residency.
This update aims to streamline the student visa application process while aligning students’ educational aspirations with Australia’s skill needs, supporting a pathway to permanent residency for those who can contribute to the Australian economy and society.
