All About NCLEX Exam, Become a Registered Nurse in Australia

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) substituted the previous bridging program, i.e. EPIQ-RN Program for all the Internally Qualified Nurses and Midwives (IQNM’S) with an Outcomes Based Assessment (OBA) in March 2020. The eligible international nurses have to go through two examinations called NCLEX Exam and OSCE (Objective structured clinical examination) to achieve nursing registration in Australia.

NCLEX stands for National Council Licensure Examination introduced by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to examine candidate’s ability to begin their practice as an entry-level nurse. An exam’s design is in a comprehensive manner that covers nursing concepts and candidates who have completed an accredited nursing program are eligible for this exam. The student have to pass this exam to become a Registered Nurse (RN). It was developed by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc (NCSBN).

Procedures of Registration for the NCLEX

The following steps will guide you regarding the registration:

  • Receive approval from AHPRA to proceed for NCLEX exam.
  • On the prior, you have to register yourself and then pay your fee online, or you can also call the staff of Pearson Vue center as per your convenience.
  • The student will receive an email from Pearson center after registration, whereby the endorsement pertaining to NCLEX exam Registration will be attached.
  • You will become eligible to sit in the Pearson Vue system by AHPRA
  • The receipt of ATT (Authorization to Test) will be confirmed after the eligibility via email from Pearson Vue. You have to appear for this test within the valid dates (90 days).
  • For the appointment, you will receive a call or get the online updation.
  • You have to bring all the necessary identification proofs during your arrival for the exam appointment (NOTE : Passport is mandatory for international candidates)
  • YYou will get the result of your exams within six weeks from AHPRA

Formatting of the Test

  • The test contains four primary categories, along with six subcategories.
  • Mostly questions are multiple-choice
  • Other formats include drag-and-drop, chart/exhibit questions, and fill-in-the-blank
  • Questions are based highly on Nursing concepts
  • Different versions of the test contain questions in various numeric forms
  • Ranges of the question in the RN Exam: 75-265

Procedure after passing NCLEX-RN Examination

You can move to the OSCE stage after clearing the NCLEX-RN EXAMINATION. AHPRA will render your direction for booking your OSCE examination at the Adelaide Health Simulation Centre.
